BMC Hawaiian Escape and Sedona Collections

BMC Hawaiian Escape and Sedona Collections

Hello Loves!  As promised, I have TWO Bundle Monster Gel Polish collections to show you today:  The Hawaiian Escape Collection and the Sedona Collection.  Let's start with Hawaiian Escape and end with Sedona.

To my knowledge, the Hawaiian Escape Collection is the first gel polish collection of it's kind.  To create the illusion of texture, this collection actually has sand in it!  The result is similar to what you might get if you applied a top coat over one of the OPI Liquid Sand polishes:  Depth and texture with a smooth finish.  They make me think of little, speckled Easter eggs!

Before I show you the swatches, I should mention a few things:
  • These polishes are not textured to the touch.  They only look textured.
  • They are designed to be one coaters.  The polish itself is quite thick.  Apply them in three, even strokes for even sand coverage.
  • After you cap the free edge, you might need to press the edge with a dry brush to remove any sand that is sticking to the edge.  Otherwise, the tips of your nails will be a little rough and uneven.
  • Your coats might need to be a little thicker than you would usually apply due to the sand.  I haven't found the thicker coats to be an issue for wear.

Ready to see them?

The first polish in the collection is a pale, peachy beige base with orange sand called Coco-Nutty.  The base in this one is what is often referred to as a "crelly" finish in the Indie Polish world.  It isn't an opaque cream, but it isn't a jelly either.  It's a semi-sheer, "squishy" finish.  For this swatch and the others in this collection, I used a regular gel top coat on the index, middle and pinkie nails.  I used a matte top coat on the ring finger to show you how they look matte.  :)  (P.S.  I'm nursing a few low splits, so I'm wearing a gel overlay under the gel polish in these photos - this makes it appear a little thicker than it would be without the overlay.)

The next polish is a beautiful, fuchsia pink jelly base with dark purple, pink and white sand called Guava Drop.  This one might be my favorite of the collection and is much prettier in person than in my pictures.  The depth from the jelly base freaked my camera out a tad.  It couldn't decide where to focus!  lol

Papaya Passion is an almost neon orange crelly base with red sand.  I couldn't get this one to photograph quite right.  It is a bit brighter and less pastel in person.

Poha Picker is a slightly blue leaning, green crelly base with dark blue and yellow sand.  The base makes the yellow sand look neon green.  :)

Lilikoi Lover is a pastel yellow base with orange sand.  I found the sand less noticeable in this one.  It kind of fades into the base.  This one also gave me trouble with application.  I ended up using two thinner coats to get even coverage.

Finally, Kula Lavender is a pastel purple base with dark blue sand.  This is my second favorite in the collection.

What do you think of these super unique gel polishes?  Would you wear them?  I think they're adorable!  You can pick up the set or the singles on Bundle Monster's Website here or on Amazon here (the Amazon listing shows Poha Picker first, but the other colors and the set are an option under the same listing).

Moving on to the Sedona Collection.  Sedona is made up of three thermal gel polishes.  Bundle Monster is killing it with the thermals lately!  Like previous collections, Sedona does not disappoint.  All three of the shades in this collection are tri-colored thermals.  I have swatched them in their primary phases (warm, transition and cold) but will show you the super cold phase on swatch sticks at the end.  The super cold phase really only shows up in cold winter weather or in the presence of ice water.  ;)  Ready to see them?

I'll start with the one that many of you have asked about.  Purple Rain is a soft, pastel purple in the warm phase and a deep, red toned purple in the cold phase.  It has an iridescent green shimmer that adds a subtle sparkle.  It is opaque in two coats in both the warm and cold phases.

Straw-Melon is a soft, shimmery pink when warm and a hot, strawberry red when cold.  Like Purple Rain, Straw-Melon also has an iridescent green shimmer.  Straw-Melon is also opaque in two coats in both phases.

Finally, Summer Daydreams is a soft, pastel/mint green in the warm phase and a soft, pastel pink in the cold phase.  This one is a true cream.  Summer Daydreams was a little trickier to apply for me.  I found it needed 3-4 coats to be fully opaque without streaks.  The end result is definitely worth the extra coats in my opinion.  :)

As I mentioned above, all three of these shades are tri-color thermals.  In extreme cold (or exposure to ice water), they take on another color.  Since it is a bit warmer here now and I didn't want to completely waterlog my fingers, I decided to show you on swatch sticks.  :)

From left to right:  Summer Daydreams takes on a blue toned purple in extreme cold.  Straw-Melon takes on a deep, reddish brown in extreme cold.  And Purple Rain takes on a deep wine shade in extreme cold.  I can't wait to wear these next winter!

Purple Rain and Summer Daydreams are currently out of stock as single polishes on Bundle Monster's website and on Amazon.  They do appear to be available as part of the three piece collection (linked above).  However, they should be back in stock as singles sometime in the next few weeks.  So if you want them, keep an eye out for the restock. :)

KBShimmer Early Summer 2014 Collection

Press Sample Affiliate Links

Hello Loves!  I apologize for the late post today, but I promise it's worth it!  I have 6 pre-release polishes from the KBShimmer Early Summer 2014 Collection to show you today.  These are all traditional polish, but I have sandwiched them with Soak Off Gel as a gel addict is bound to do.  ;)
KBShimmer Early Summer Collection 2014 Swatches

This collection consists of 3 gorgeous creams, 3 incredible textures, and 6 new amazing holos.  I chose two of each to show you.

I'll start with the creams.  If you're a gel user, you're probably wondering why I picked cream RNPs when creams are readily available in almost every shade imaginable in gel.  Well, two reasons.  First, they're gorgeous and I just couldn't resist them.  Second, I have given up on tape manis using gel and the KBShimmer formula is fabulous, so I plan to attempt a RNP sandwich tape mani.  ;)

The first cream is this gorgeous royal blue called Low And Be Bold.  This one reminds me a lot of Couture Royalty but in a cream instead of a jelly.  Simply stunning!  As I mentioned, the formula is fabulous and I struggled very little with application - which is saying something considering how out of practice I am at applying RNP!  Shown below is three coats of Low And Be Bold over a clear SOG base with SOG top coat.

The second cream I chose is this beautiful pink toned coral called Let's Not Coral.  The color is fabulous and the application was smooth.  I will say this one whooped my tail a bit, but at no fault of the color.  I kept dinging it and having to start over.  Dry time on RNP kills me!  As with the swatch before, this is three coats over a clear SOG base with SOG top coat.
KBShimmer Lets Not Coral Swatch

The next two polishes I have to show you are holographic.  I swatched these as SOG sandwiches as well, again with 3 coats between a clear base and SOG top coat.  I adore these so much!  The formula is fantastic and they both applied smooth as butter on a hot roll.  Holos are usually tricky for me, but I had no trouble with these at all.

When it came time to choose my colors, I didn't have to think twice about this one.  Nude and holo?  Yes Please!  In Bare Form is opaque in two or three coats but can be worn as one coat for a sheer look.  It's so incredibly versatile and I just had to have it.  Isn't it gorgeous?  It takes on a slightly golden tone on my skin, but it is more of a taupe in the bottle.

Since linear holos do not exist in gel, I took another shot.  Trust me, you need it.

The second holo I have to show you is Stark Raven Mad.  It is described as a charcoal shade, but I consider it to be black.  And an awesome black at that!  The holo in this one is much stronger than appears below.  Top coat does tend to mute the holo a bit, but I wanted to show how it looks sandwiched for longevity.

Did I mention how much I love these?  Yes?  No?  Well, let me say it again!  I loved them so much I couldn't resist using them for a little nude and black nail art.  This is a completely new look for me and I'm pleased with how it turned out.  The accent nail is made up of simple swirls and dots using a fine detail brush and Stark Raven Mad.

Finally, I have the two textures to show you.  I saved these for last because they are simply my favorites!  I seriously regret not getting the other texture in this release because now I have to wait for the release on May 23rd to get my hands on it.  I am very picky about textured polishes.  The first one I tried was a NOPI and I think it set the standard for me.  I like my textures to be a bit chunky, but easy to apply.  Well, these certainly fit the bill!  I was half expecting to fight with them like many glitter polishes and other textures I've tried, but I didn't have to fight at all.  No dabbing.  No arranging glitters.  Simply three coats applied like the creams.  Fabulous!

First up is Too Pop To Handle.  This texture is a slightly red toned purple that is packed with holographic glitters.  I can't even think of the words to describe it, so I'll let the pictures do the talking. Check out the texture!  This is three coats over a clear SOG base without top coat.

Want to see it a little closer?  I thought you might, so I took a macro shot.  It turned out a little blurry.  Sorry about that...I haven't quite mastered macro shots with my camera yet.  But hey, points for trying, right?  ;)

If you're not a fan of textures, that's ok.  She's even more incredible with two layers of SOG top coat!  I used Gelaze top coat since it's a bit thicker than my others.  A-May-Zing!

So, I saved the best for last.  She Twerks Out is my personal favorite of the six I'm showing you, and I am wearing it in my final mani for the week!  I have shown this aqua beauty here over a clear gel base.  I'm in love with the aqua, green and purple holographic glitters.

I promise the colors are in there.  They got a little lost in my photos, sadly.  You can see them better in this macro shot.  Thankfully, this macro turned out better than the other one!

Want to see this one with top coat?  Believe me, you really do.  Again, I added two coats of Gelaze top coat.

Since I mentioned my mani for this week, would you like to see it too?  I started with a base of Gelish Radiance is My Middle Name.  I didn't think to grab a swatch photo.  Sorry about that.  I then applied two coats of She Twerks Out to the thumb, index and pinkie nails.  The middle and ring nails are stamped with Mundo de Unas White using the peacock feather image from MoYou London Pro 05.   I left the main nails textured for now, but I might add top coat later in the week to change it up.

The official release date for this collection is May 23, 2014.  They will be available for purchase then.  In the mean time, be sure to follow KBShimmer on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see other colors in the collection and to be sure you don't miss the release!

Which of these are your favorite?  See any you personally can't live without?

L'Oreal Colour Riche Gold Dust: Rough Around the Edges

Affiliate Links Purchased by Me

Hello Loves. I'm deviating from the gel swatches today to show you my newest love.  Loreal Colour Riche Gold Dust Rough Around the Edges.  This one caught my eye while shopping the other day, and I just couldn't leave it behind.  I'm a little behind the rest of the polish world when it comes to textures.  I didn't think I would like the rough feel, so I held out and avoided buying one to try.  I gave in and picked one up a few weeks back, and now I'm hooked.

I have only tried a few textures from different brands so far, and I haven't loved them all.  But this one...I predict this one will be used as an accent in many of my manicures in 2014.  I love the black base with the silver glittery finish, and I was shocked that it only needed two coats!  I really like this collection so far!

This is an angle I likely won't show very often thanks to my crooked middle finger.  That nail gives me fits!  I never know whether to shape it so that it the edge is straight when my fingers are extended or so that the edge is straight when posed with the polish bottle.  Since most of my pictures are with the bottles, I tend to shape it for that.  lol

I think I'll go back and get a few more from this collection.  If my memory serves me, they all have that added sparkle, and I really like the formula!

Weekly Mani: Stamping Challenge - Your Favorite Flower

Contest Prize Purchased by Me

Hello Loves.   I decided to participate in the Adventures in Stamping weekly challenge this week. This was an easy one for me since I tend to lean toward floral nail art.  The difficult part was picking my favorite flower!  When it comes to actual fresh cut flowers, stargazer lilies have been my favorites for years.  Recently, I have started moving away from them.  They are so common in funeral arrangements that I have begun to associate the fragrant blooms with loss and sadness.  I know, it's crazy.  But they say that scent is the strongest sense tied to memory, so I guess it was bound to happen at some point.  So I chose the rose as my favorite flower for this one.  I tend to gravitate toward roses for nail art, and what girl doesn't appreciate a vase of roses?

I absolutely LOVE how this mani turned out.  So simple, yet there is a lot going on with this one.  As usual, details to follow.
L'Oreal Gold Dust over Couture Dance til Dawn

The base for this mani is Couture Gel Nail Polish Dance Til Dawn.  I used this base for another mani but the swatch pictures didn't turn out.  Thankfully, I got decent pictures this time.  Dance til Dawn is a soft white that leans slightly tan.  I absolutely love it!

Here's a comparison shot between Dance til Dawn and Couture's pure white Ooh La La French.  This is one of the pictures that didn't turn out from the last swatch attempt, so please excuse the strange skin tone.  The polish colors are accurate on my monitor.
Couture Dance til Dawn and Ooh La La French

I then stamped the middle and ring fingers with part of the long rose image from Messy Mansion MM07 and used my squishy stamper to slightly curve the stamp around the side of each the nail.  I used Spoiled 2 Weeks Sober as the stamping polish.

Finally, I added two coats of The Reign of Studs from L'Oreal's Colour Riche Gold Dust collection to the thumb, index and pinkie nails.
L'Oreal Gold Dust over Couture Dance til Dawn

I am completely head over heels for the Gold Dust polishes!  I love the added sparkle and they are extremely easy to apply.  After trying this one, I went back and grabbed three more shades.  I wanted them all, but I decided to stick with the ones I knew I could coordinate with my gels.  Look for swatches of those soon.  :)

I'm actually loving the textured polishes all together.  I do a lot of swatching on the weekends and I only soak off one hand until I'm ready to do my final mani.  So at any given point in time, my weekend hands are not going to match.  It never fails that I'll be in the middle of swatching a color that completely clashes with the art from the week before on my right hand, and my dearest husband will decide he wants to go out to dinner.  I'll sacrifice a lot for my readers, but I'm not about to go out in public with clashing hands.  Textured polishes have become my savior!  They apply quickly and dry super fast, so I can throw one on over my crazy mismatched gel and run out the door.  Not to mention if you bump one before it is completely dry, no big deal.  It's textured, so you're not even going to notice.  Yea!

~Michelle
