Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  I hope you have a lovely day.  No major plans for me - I'm spending the day with my family and hoping I can convince my husband to fire up the grill tonight.  That man makes a divine smoked chicken.

My mani for today is a simple one, but I love it!

I started with a base of Pink Gellac Lipstick Red.  Lipstick red is a classic, blue toned red cream.  It applies nicely and is opaque in two coats.

The accent nail is Pink Gellac  Baby Pink.  Baby pink is a light pink cream.  It applies smoothly as well but I did feel it needed 3 coats to hide my stubborn VNL.

I then mixed a little bit of ArtsyFartsy Crafts Fuchsia holographic glitter with a few drops of my Pink Gellac Ultra Shine Top Coat and used a dotting tool to create little hearts.  I love how it turned out.  I also find it funny how some of my simplest designs get the most compliments.  :)  I know I talk about my ArtsyFartsy glitters a good bit, but I really do adore them.  Seriously, nothing compares when you need a little bling but aren't in the mood for crystals!

Oh, and my hands match!  Such a rare thing for me.  Ok, they sort of match.  The hearts on my left hand are done with ArstyFartsy Crafts Dark Red Holographic glitter.  I started with this hand and decided it didn't stand out quite as much as I would like so I switched the glitter for my left hand.  :)

Here's a closeup of my right hand.  Poor Cinderella.  She's so neglected.  If she knew how to pose I might show her more often.  lol

Overall, I'm still impressed by the Pink Gellac gel polishes.  My only complaint is the brushes.  They are a little stiffer than I prefer for a salon quality gel polish and I have run across several brushes that have a bristle out of place that I had to trim.  It's a minor annoyance that is definitely overshadowed by a nice formula in my opinion, but I can't help but wonder why they don't use higher quality brushes.  Anyway, I now have the full collection and will be working my way through them for you over the next few months.  :)  These are the gel polishes that are available through the Chickettes Boutique or on Amazon here.

  1. I love the shine and look of gels but I'm always afraid that if I'd use them extensively, my nails would suffer. Prejudging much? :-)
But compared to nail polish, I love the 'bulky' way the gels dress up the nail way more. I tend to add more coats of polish to get that effect on my nails :)

Back to the nails - I love the combo you chose, I love the subtleness of the design, you can't go wrong with hearts <3

  2. Cecilia I have been using gel polish for about 3 1/2 years now as a DIYer with absolutely no damage to my nails. I don't use a drill (don't have one & never will), and soak off don't push off. It's definitely a huge learning curve, but do-able. ...... and cute mani Michelle.
